CenturyLink Acquires Orchestrate
Orchestrate’s team and technology have joined CenturyLink Cloud, the all-in-one cloud platform for high-performance, secure, reliable and scalable cloud solutions, to bring its multi-model database service to all workloads.
Why did CenturyLink Cloud acquire Orchestrate?
Companies are looking for ways to quickly and reliably store and retrieve data for modern web applications. The Orchestrate technology gives developers a single API to access graph, key-value, document, and geospatial data. CenturyLink is excited to deliver this capability to its customers, and leverage it internally to power new services coming to market.
What does CenturyLink Cloud do?
CenturyLink Cloud features one of the most sophisticated service infrastructures in the market, with a great interface and lots of options for managing complex workflow and third-party applications in the cloud.
Why CenturyLink Cloud?
There is both a cultural and technology fit between CenturyLink and Orchestrate. Orchestrate is building a scalable, cloud-scale service that solves key problems using a thoughtful interface that abstracts away underlying complexity. The same can be said for CenturyLink Cloud. Both teams focus on rapid software delivery and constant user feedback and apply similar levels of engineering rigor to their development processes. CenturyLink also has a track record of success with startups, as evidenced by recent acquisitions Tier 3, AppFog, Cognilytics and DataGardens.
How will this affect Orchestrate and its current customers?
The Orchestrate team is joining CenturyLink and will continue to operate and improve the Orchestrate service. You will still receive the great support you expect from Orchestrate.
Over the long-run, with a tighter integration with CenturyLink Cloud, customers can expect a much more compelling user experience and more complete DBaaS offerings thanks to increased CenturyLink investment in the service.
Will you continue to run the service on AWS?
We anticipate supporting existing AWS customers and have immediately added four additional locations on CenturyLink Cloud.
What will happen to my data?
Any application hosted in an AWS data center will continue to have its data hosted there. If you have concerns about your data, or questions about data replication, please email email@example.com.
Will there be a new and improved version of the product under the new company?
We will continue to develop this product in the same way we have for the last two years, using feedback from customers and advancements in database technology to provide the best database-as-a-service possible. We are excited to explore opportunities to integrate with CenturyLink’s all-in-one cloud platform. Our expectation is that new features will be made available across all data centers that Orchestrate supports.
Do you plan to change the pricing?
Our existing competitive, developer-friendly pricing – including the free tier – will remain the same.
Will the client libraries still be available on GitHub?
Yes. Language-specific libraries, utilities, and everything else stored in our GitHub repositories will remain in place. We want to continue to communicate with our community in every way. One of the most important methods we use is code.
Will I still receive the same support from the Orchestrate team?
We believe we create the best Database-as-a-Service by maintaining a close interaction with the developers using it. With an assist from CenturyLink Cloud support, we’ll maintain the same level of support. Tell us more about what you’re building at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to help make you successful.
What about the Orchestrate team? Are you still headquartered in Portland?
