Frequently Asked Questions
What is an operation?
An operation is a single read, write, update, delete, or search query. In general, an operation is captured in a single API call. Our bulk write API is the exception, a bulk write is composed of multiple writes and each write request represents a single operation.
What can I do with 50K operations?
With 50k operations, you can load a dataset and experiment with the API. Some users find they can build low volume applications on our free tier. For example, our demo app MarvelousDB happily sits in our free tier.
What happens if I go over the included operations?
If you’re on the free plan, you will be sent a warning as you approach the limit. On reaching the limit, your account will be temporarily suspended until you upgrade your account or at the beginning of the next monthly billing cycle.
If you're on a paid plan, there are no limits. There's just included operations and storage. If your application consumes the usage included in your plan, you will be billed a discounted rate for any additional operations and/or writes consumed. Orchestrate's paid plans are designed to scale with your applications, no action needed. The price of the additional operations or writes will depend on your plan and are listed above.
What tier is best for me?
When you first visit Orchestrate, we want you to be able to test out the API and its functionality immediately. That’s why we provide the free tier. The free tier is for experimenting and familiarizing yourself with our API.
The Developer tier is intended for people in the development phase of an application lifecycle. It provides support needed for the beginning of a development process, a level of operations that covers most development use cases (and the ability to add additional operations, if necessary). It includes two applications, intended to separate your production and development environments (but can be used for whatever purposes).
The Professional tier is for the production phase of the application lifecycle. It provides faster support needed for any production roadblocks, additional volume for storage and operations, additional applications, and even provides assistance with data loads.
We believe that scaling your application shouldn’t require extensive forethought or action when you have a DBaaS. One of the ways we help make that possible is through our ready-to-go packaged plans.
What is bulk data loading?
Bulk data loading is a service we provide our Professional and Enterprise customers. We assist these customers with loading existing datasets into Orchestrate and don’t count the data load against the operation and write quotas.
Are the included operations total or per application?
The operations included in each plan are for your entire account and are not per application. For example, the Developer plan gives users two applications and 500,000 operations. If one application has 250,000 operations and the second application has 250,000 operations, the user would have used their allotment of included operations.
What's an application?
Applications in Orchestrate represent what is known as a “database” in relational systems. An application contains collections akin to tables in a RDBMS.
Although you can use the API to add collections and query your data, you can only create an application from the Orchestrate dashboard. You can also add unlimited team members to applications. All members of an application are able to view, create, and revoke API keys and use those keys to access the application’s data. Learn More.
What kind of support would I receive?
No matter what plan you’re on, Orchestrate is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service. You can contact our team of database experts through our Community Chat or file support tickets from the Orchestrate Dashboard by clicking the question mark icon.
If you’re on a free plan, our experts will get back to you as soon as possible during normal business hours. If you’re on our developer plan, Orchestrate guarantees responses in no more than one business day. If you’re on our professional plan, we guarantee same business day support. If you’re an enterprise customer, you have on-call database experts – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
What value is added with a warranty and indemnification?
Warranty and indemnification is often a requirement of large organizations that require guarantees to protect them against software failures and legal action.
Can I cancel at any time?
We'll be sad to see you go, but yes. You can cancel your account at any time through the Orchestrate Dashboard.
